Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ

Spirit of Texas (SOT) is an all-around amazing restaurant to try. The history of this establishment is amazing and has had a tremendous impact on its community. To start, don't be shy to ask for a taste of their products. The staff is happy and polite, and the facilities are clean. Going clockwise from the top I had on my plate, pulled pork, coleslaw, spicy mac & cheese, beef brisket, pork belly, and corn bread. All of the protein was perfectly seasoned with simple but tasty ingredients. SOT cooks their meats to perfect tenderness, with a crunchy crust for texture. The spicy mac & cheese has a healthy amount of cheesiness that leaves you scraping every last drop. The coleslaw is crunchy and refreshing, providing a balance to the whole plate. For me, the corn bread had just the right amount of burnt crust on the top and was still buttery in the middle. Overall, I highly recommend SOT to anyone looking for an amazing BBQ. It is my understanding that they are opening additional locations.

So this is $53 (after tax) worth of BBQ, one side and a drink, which, as you can see, came out to about a rack of ribs, half a sausage link, a side of beans and a piece of corn bread (upon request). Everything was definitely good, but fell short of five stars for me. When you walk in the front door you are greeted by a digital menu above the guy that cuts and measures the weight of the meat you want, and prominently displayed in a photo on that menu is the picture of a spare rib that looks outstanding....the ribs I got didn't look like that, it basically looks like it had double the meat of the largest rib on the rack I got (the close up photo), also the meat on that rib on the video menu looked pink, tender, and juicy...my mouth was watering. To be picky (maybe you can tell by my photos) the ribs I got seemed a bit overcooked compared to that teaser picture....and definitely didn't have the same amount of meat. The jalapeño sausage was spicy and well smoked, but cooked to the point of approaching being burnt. Maybe Texas BBQ is supposed to be well "charred" but I would have appreciated the sausage, and definitely the ribs to have been cooked just a bit less. Their sauce(s), (a spicy version was provided upon request), were fine but a tad on the sweeter side than I prefer. The BBQ beans were good, but also a tad sweet. I liked the cornbread just as it was. So, there you go, everything was definitely good but really hard for me to say worth north of fifty bucks when a comparable meal at a chain rib place would be probably twenty bucks cheaper, but if you like your BBQ sauce on the slightly sweeter side and your meat leaning more on the char, you might just love it, if my ribs came out like the one in the picture I might have too.

‼️ Highly recommend ‼️ This place is a hidden gem. In all my years of living in Southern California and trying different spots, I finally found the best BBQ. We ordered a half pound of the prime brisket and pork ribs- both were spectacular. The brisket was our favorite: fall apart and full of flavor. The bark on the ribs was a perfect bite to the juicy and tender pork. Side note: the bbq beans were also good. The workers we encountered were very friendly and made the experience even better. Will definitely be returning.

This is the real deal, and we should know, we are from the same area of Texas that inspires the spirit of this local eatery. The BBQ sauce is sweet with a hint of spice, just like the rub on the brisket. We preferred the burnt ends for the flavor profile and texture. Sweet tea is also the way a Texan would make it. Nice and sweetly refreshing, but you can still taste the high quali-tea! I'm so glad we ended up finding this place on our road trip. We even grabbed another pound of burnt ends for leftovers. The best brisket either of us have had in a while! Fast and friendly service, too. No complaints!!! We loved it.
